Effective September 1, 2016, state agencies and marijuana addiction their vendors shall only be able to refer clients to certified alcohol and drug free (ADF) housing. Any home not certified will not be able to accept clients from state agencies until certified. A contract was awarded to the Massachusetts Alliance for Sober Housing (MASH) to be the certifying body, and the training and technical assistance vendor. Finances can be a determining factor in deciding the best plan for your recovery. Insurance plans do not cover most sober living homes because they do not provide treatment services. Support Design and Implementation

Vanderburgh Sober Living (VSL) is a network of independently operated sober homes organized and supported by the Vanderburgh Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 Charitable Foundation. VSL to support and equip operators to strengthen their local communities through effective sober housing. Most of our community has been through an inpatient rehab program or halfway house and have learned about the disease of addiction and the tools needed in order to stay sober.

In 2007, eight sober home operators established the nonprofit Massachusetts Alliance for Sober Housing. Legislation in 2014 created voluntary certification of Massachusetts sober homes, and MASH began managing voluntary statewide sober home certification in 2016. Gandara Center, Springfield, $14,000Grant funds will help renovate eight units of affordable sober housing for men at Miracle House in Springfield. North Star Family Services, Leominster, $125,000Grant funds will help create 14 units of affordable supportive housing for families in Leominster. Dismas House, Oakham, $125,000Grant funding will help construct six new affordable housing units for families and individuals. Our mission at NATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR RECOVERY RESIDENCES (NARR) is to enhance access to quality recovery residences by setting standards, providing education, and advocating for those in addiction recovery.
